Obituary for Michael Byrnes

MD, FRCP (C)-Michael (Mike) Byrnes passed away on his 70th birthday - All Saints Day, November 1st, 2004, surrounded by his family. He courageously fought a lengthy illness. Loving husband of Patricia Byrnes (nee Quinn) for 44 years. Mike was a wonderful father to his 5 children: Mary (B. Clifton Beach), Michael, Anne (Bruce Miller), Connor (Julietta Felgueiras), and Matthew (Catherine Byrnes). Beloved son of the late Michael Patrick Byrnes and C. Dorothea Byrnes (nee Cronin). Predeceased by sister Mary Patricia; and Cronin Aunts: Margaret, Mother St. Martha IBVM, Helen, Catherine, Sheila, Uncles Henry and Carew Cronin, and Great-Aunt Mary Boulton. Proud grandfather to Hannah and Rachel Beach; Erin and Matty Byrnes; Bridget and Sophia Miller; Angela Byrnes; Beca and Griff Byrnes. Born in Toronto, raised in Collingwood. Mike attended St. Michael's Choir School, Regiopolis College, St. Michael's College School, and graduate from Medical School at U of T in 1960. He practiced medicine in Parry Sound, the Clarke Institute and spent 32 years as a valued member of the psychiatric staff at Scarborough's Centenary Hospital until his retirement in 2000. Mike was an accomplished Marathon runner, twice running in the Boston Marathon. He greatly enjoyed skiing, cycling, swimming at the cottage in Hamer Bay, Muskoka, and loved to play the piano. Mike will be sadly missed by all. Special thanks to CCAC, the Temmy Latner Centre, and Dr. Kirshen. Friends may call at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge St., at Goulding, south of Steeles), on Wednesday, November 3 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd (21 Simonston Blvd., Thornhill) on Thursday, November 4 at 10:30 am. Cremation. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Rouge Valley Centenary Hospital, Foundation Department, 416-281-7121, 2867 Ellesmere Road, Toronto, M1E 4B9.
