Obituary of Velma Gregoris
VELMA LUCY GREGORIS
January 7, 2021 - April 17, 2021
It is with great sadness and with the heaviest of hearts that the family of Velma Lucy Gregoris (nee Manzon) announces her sudden and peaceful passing. Velma was predeceased by her loving husband Fred P. Gregoris, her parents Olympio and Louisa Manzon and her twin brother Luciano Manzon. She is survived by her brother Armando (Kathleen) Manzon and her sisters-in-law Vivian (Luciano) Manzon, Doreen (Angelo) and Severina (John) Gregoris. Dear mother to Frederick J. (Mary- Lou) Gregoris, Lynne Mound-Gregoris, Larry Gregoris and Lou-Anne (Jack) Pardon. Loving grandmother (Nona) to Christopher (Nadine), Peter (Adriana), Matthew (Christina), Lisa, Joseph (Kathryn), Jessie (Ashley) and Deanna Gregoris, Ashley, Jennifer (Bryan), Vanessa, Michael Mound, and Dean (Sonsire), Drew and Danielle Pardon. Great-grandmother to Paige, Teagan, Emerson, Daphne and Louis Gregoris, and Sebastian and Benjamin Pardon. Velma will be greatly missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends. During the last four years, our mother courageously battled the ravages of memory loss. The Villa Colombo Adult Day Program taught her how to participate once again in life, instead of living with the ever present fear of forgetting a face, name or word. We thank the exceptional staff at Villa Colombo, in particular Philomena, for giving our mother the tools which enabled her to step outside her front door. Special thanks to Dr. Goodall for his excellent care, compassion, mentorship and acute listening skills which you provided to our mother, for you define the very essence of what it is to be a doctor. We will miss those fireside chats. Many thanks to one of our mother’s best friends Sandra Belvedere, who greatly assisted our family during this very difficult time. In addition, we express our thanks to our mother’s Wasaga Beach neighbour Steve DiStefano who provided weekly Spring, Summer and Fall rides to the Cottage. We are also very grateful to our mother’s caregivers. Irene, with your love, care and compassion you lifted her spirits when she was in her darkest moments of despair. By providing an exceptional quality of care our mother was able to remain in her beloved home, her castle and she was still able to maintain her elegance, even at 88! The family will receive friends at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge St. (at Goulding, south of Steeles) on Thursday, April 21, 2021 from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 2565 Bathurst St. (north of Eglinton) on Friday, April 22, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. Entombment Holy Cross Cemetery, 8361 Yonge St. (south of 407). If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Villa Colombo Ladies Auxiliary Community Day Care Program or the Hurvitz Brain Sciences Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (Dementia and Brain Research).
